Peter came into this world on December 17th, 1950, his mum and dad’s, Alfred and Gisela’s first wedding anniversary. All the Howard boys were bornin Bolton England. Peter being the oldest, the middle brother being Richard, and the youngest being Martin.
While in Bolton, both Peter and Richard attended St. Mikes primary school.
The family left Bolton and immigrated to Canada in May 1958. After spending the first few yeas at 423 William Ave., they moved to the good old West End, 919 Banning Str., to be exact. It was there that Peter would meet his lifelong friends Monika Hunkel, Bronwyn Lyon, Collen Malley, and Carol Miller, all of whom he loved and cherished to his last day. Thick as thieves they were.
Listening to the latest Roy Orbison or Beatles record was his favourite. Many hours were spent in the rec-room on Banning, practicing the latest moves for the Teen Dance Party TV show.
Peter attended Principal Sparling, General Wolfe, and Daniel McIntyre schools.
Peters first real job was at Dominion Bridge, didn’t last unfortunately due to the layoffs. Peter had a keen interest in the medical field, so he became an Orderly in the early 70’s. After a couple years of doing that, he went back to school and graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1977. This was achieved with help from Mary Reimer, who later became his wife. Though the marriage didn’t last, they remained very close until his passing. Peter was employed at the HSC, mainly in the Chemical Withdraw unit along with Psychiatry.
Peter in the early years would take great joy in babysitting his nephews Chris, Richard Jr., and Ryan. He would plunk them in front of the V.C.R., and binge watch his favourite movie “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.” This happened so much, I bet to this day Chris, Richard Jr., and Ryan could sill recite some of the songs and maybe a dance move or two.
Besides his family, Pete’s other loves, were reading European history and learning languages. Some of them he could speak and understand. Not fluently, but enough to get by.
Pete was an amazing cook. He would be tickled pink when people would compliment him for his meals.
It was Peter’s request to not have a service. In lieu of flowers, a donation to any pet shelter would make him smile.
