George Wilde Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, Papa, brother, uncle & friend after a very brief battle with Cancer. George Wilde passed peacefully on August 2nd, 2022, at Riverview Health Centre, with his one true love at his side.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 42 years Diane, his daughter, Crystal, and his son Shawn (Melissa); his 2 granddaughters, Desirae, and Blake and 2 grandsons, Gavin, and Nolan; his sisters Sally Bouchey and Deborah Wilde, brother Fred Wilde, brother in-laws Art Lafrenière and Alfred Hart, sister in-laws Rena Wilde and Mary Lafrenière, and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

George was predeceased by his parents Sydney and Grace, his In-laws Louis and Patricia Lafrenière, brothers John and Glenn, sisters Norma and Ruth (in infancy), brother in-laws, Wilfred Bouchey, Charlie Saunders, Donald Lafrenière and Paul Lafrenière, sister in-laws Patricia Wilde, Jocelyn Hart, and Thelma Lafrenière and nephews Derek Bouchey, Bert Bouchey and Duane Hart.

George was born on August 31st, 1945, in Bosanquet township, Ontario. He spent his early years in Grand Bend, Ontario and Fisher River, Manitoba where his family settled when his father, Sydney started pastoring for many communities within the area.

In 1974, George met Diane in Wabowden, Manitoba however work separated them as he went to work in the Mines in Red Lake, Ontario. They reunited in Thompson, Manitoba in 1976, when he returned to work in the Nickle Mines.

George and Diane moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba in the fall of 1978, and two years later married on July 24th, 1980. Within the next four years they raised two children in the North End of Winnipeg, Manitoba.

George had many passions in his lifetime. Growing up, he played both hockey and baseball perfecting his skills. Years later, George became an overjoyed father, when his son soon followed in his footsteps. Spending countless hours at the arena and field proudly watching his son, as well as nieces and nephews playing the sports he grew up loving. After years of watching his son play hockey, he got to experience his own grandsons doing the same.

There is no amount of words that can describe who George truly was, but at his core he was a kind man with a heart of gold. Over the years, countless memories were created with family and friends and hundreds of stories that will continue to be told for years to come. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the entire staff of the GB2 Unit at the Winnipeg Health Science Center, Cancer Care Manitoba, and the Riverview Health Center for the compassionate and professional care that was received by George in his last months before he went on his final journey. As well as the Chief and Council of Fisher River First Nations for honoring his final wishes and Eternal Grace Funerals for going above and beyond and helping in George's final arrangement.

In Lieu of Flowers, donations can be made to Cancer Care Manitoba or to the Riverview Health Centre.
