Maria Swain Obituary

Peacefully at her home on Saturday, May 27th, 2023, the Lord called our beloved mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, and Pastor home.

She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Brenda (Lindsay), Wanda (Francis), Mabel (Gerald), Rachel, Suzie (Ryan), and Felicia; sons Langford (Tracy), Doyle (Maureen), Mark (Cher), Lemuel, Percy (Diana), Shelly (Lorna) her baby Kaleb; 46 grandchildren, 75 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great grandchildren all of whom, affectionately referred Maria as their Gogo.

Maria was predeceased by her husband James Swain on July 24th, 2000, daughter Lorna Swain on June 23rd, 2003, her father Dixon Flett in November of 1974, her mother Betsy Flett in April of 1963, grandchildren Geoffrey Green on December 7th, 2018, Dorothy Green on January 26th, 2015, August James Swain on July 29th, 2013, Hunter Swain on April 30th, 2005, Timothy Green on April 10th, 1994, Margaret Swain on November 12th, 1990, and Laurie Everett on August 26th, 1989. There were many other little ones that went before her, and these are the little ones that she requested to lay beside.

Maria was born and raised in Berens River. She spent the first part of her married life devoted to her raising family. Later, she began her career as a Community Health Representative for many years. A career that gave her an opportunity to give back to the community, in helping both the elders and the sick.

She became the Pastor of the Revival and Restoration Church in 2000, when her husband James, the Senior Pastor, went home to be with the Lord. She was a faithful follower in the Lord for over 60 years. She will sadly be missed by her congregation, especially by Leonard Whiteway, Edwin Everett, and Larry Whiteway.

A special thank you to her daughters Rachel Swain and Suzie Swain, who became her primary caregivers. Putting Maria in a nursing home was never an option or even a consideration, instead keeping her in her own home was the only decision and the best one.

“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you; not as the World giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid” John 14; 27. This was a scripture given to Maria shortly after the passing of her own mother. It quickly became her favorite scripture.

Pallbearers are her sons Langford Swain, Doyle Swain, Mark Swain, Lemuel Swain, Percy Swain, and Shelly Swain.

Wake services will be held at the Deliverance Centre on Wednesday May 31st, 2023, from 7:00 pm – 12:00 am.

The Revival and Restoration Church on Thursday June 1st and Friday June 2nd, 2023.

Funeral Service will be held at the Revival and Restoration Church on Saturday June 3rd and will begin at 12:00 pm with Associate Pastor Langford Swain and Assistant Pastor Wanda Hudson officiating.

Interment to follow beside the Revival and Restoration Church.
