Sheilagh Hanson Obituary

 

Hanson Sheilagh, - November 25, 1964 – July 8, 2020. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Sheilagh Hanson aged 55 is survived by her partner of 25 years Terrance Courchene their children, Aaron, (Amber), Chelsea, grandchildren Olivia Olson and Andre Olson, Mother- in-Law Amelia Courchene, Her brothers David Tait, (Sheila), Glenn Tait, (Elaine) Royce Ian Hanson, (Marnie) Aunt Pamela VanWart and Betty Tait, Numerous other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.



Sheilagh was predeceased by her Parents David Hanson and Jean Ellen Hanson, her brother Jan Hanson, Grandmother Theresa Courchene, Auntie Alisa Courchene, niece Ester Courchene, nephews Georgie Courchene and Blaine Courchene.

Sheilagh was known for holding onto things that she bought or was given. She was an activist believed in people’s rights and she made sure people had a voice. She loved her work, she wanted to make a difference for people so they could be treated fairly. Sheilagh had a good relationship with her partner Terrance, he said “We were good together, A PAIR, like slippers, Good as a pair not good when alone.” How true. Sheilagh will be remembered as a strong, kind spirit and caring woman. Many of her friends had come to know her as a person that listened, was open minded, friendly, fun to be around and approachable, we knew her as fun, loving and gentle. (soft spirit) who loved our nephew Terry.

 

Sheilagh loved reading, she had a whole collection of mystery novels, she also love to travel, which she did often with Terry and other times with friends.She was very involved in the Union as a shop steward, chief shop steward and was Vice president of local 50012, UHEW. She was also chair of the Winnipeg Regional Women’s Committee and Vice Chair of the Winnipeg Area Council.  She loved to help as much as she could for women’s right and for fairness.

Wake service will be held on Wednesday July 22,2020 from 6pm-12 midnight at Eternal Grace Funerals 1111 Logan Ave. (at McPhillips St.). Funeral service will follow on Thursday July 23, 2020 at 11 am also at the chapel. Cremation to follow.

Pallbearers will be Aaron, Jerry, John Wayne, Enrique, Gaelyn, Micah, Luke Sonny (Sterling Jr), Preston, Vance

Sheilagh was inspired by:

“I want to be remembered as someone who used herself and anything she could touch to work for justice and freedom.  I want to be remembered as one who tried.”  Dorothy Height – Civil rights and feminist activist.
