Tragically, on March 20, 2026, Zacharius Vernon David Boulanger was suddenly taken from his family at his residence in Berens River, Manitoba. At just 15 years old, Zach’s life was cut short, leaving him forever remembered at the tender age of 15.
Born in Winnipeg, Zach lived in Berens River with his beloved mother, Chrissy Owens, and his four sisters: Zoey, Zayla, Zendaya, and Zaelyn. He shared a special bond with his nephew, affectionately known as Baby Kessler, whom he dearly loved.
Zach was the man of the house and the family’s protector. His loss has left his loved ones devastated, mourning the absence of their cherished son, brother, and uncle.
He leaves to mourn his father, Willie Boulanger and his 9 children, siblings to Zach; his aunts Hope and Heidi, and Uncle Rick. His Uncles Luke, Millen, Zacheus, Grant (Nazia), Tyler (Danielle), Brent, Sylvain & Tommy (Samantha), Aunts Alerina (Tony), Chasity (Joseph), and Charlyn. He also leaves to mourn his loving grandparents, Ellen & Claude Boulanger, Tammy Boulanger & Vernon Felix, and Vernon & Iris Flett.
He was predeceased by his Grandpa Jimmy & Grandma Victoria, Grandpa Oliver & Grandma Thelma, and Divas Boulanger.
Zacharius was such a dog lover, earning the nickname pinhead and this made his mom post a warning to people that he was a dog napper, because she didn’t want more dogs around their house anymore. He loved playing GTA online games with his friends.
Zacharius enjoyed the outdoors, where he and his friends would camp out in the nearby bush. His favorite food was bread, and making grilled cheese sandwiches all the time was his favorite meal. He liked wearing Nike brand name clothing.
His Granny Ellen’s farewell words, “My baby boy Lil Zach, I will cherish the 15 years of memories forever in my heart. One time on a family trip to Patricia Beach, Zach as curious as always, was chasing seagulls. We told him not to do this, and he comes back with a white spot of liquid on his head, which, after checking, we determined was Bird droppings. We all laughed so hard. Papa Claude called him “Right On” because that was his favorite saying when he was small. We called him Lil Zach because we have a Big Zach in the family. As their Granny, I called them the Z family. Zach was always encouraged to stay in school and stay away from trouble. He never talked back to me, his Granny and was always very respectful. We will miss your smile and especially your presence. We love you so much.”
We would like to thank Chief & Council, Executive Assistant Pamela Valiquette, the Major Crime Unit, Berens River RCMP, Berens River Safety Officers, and the Community Members for all the support during this difficult time.
Wake service will be held at the Deliverance Center (1831 Selkirk Ave. Winnipeg MB), on Wednesday, March 25th from 7pm – 10pm with refreshments to follow.
Wake service to continue in Berens River at the United Church Thursday and Friday night, with Funeral on Saturday, March 28th, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Roy Bouchie officiating.
Zacharius’ final resting place will be at the residence of his Grandmother Tammy Boulanger.
Final Feast will follow at the United Church.
